A painful stinging in my neck awakens me; chaos has been released, as the creatures break loose from their broken hive. Not unlike my fellow tributes, I begin running for the lake in hopes that the cooling sensation of water will dull the pain. Glimmer, the girl from One is not as lucky, she falls to the ground, her body devoured by the Tracker Jackers as her cannon is sounded. Several more of the mutations have found my skin but I don’t stop running, distancing myself from the horrific scene as much as the arena will allow. It’s not until I’m halfway to the lake that I remember her. The shiny bow and sheath of arrows clamped in Glimmer’s arms will not go unnoticed by Katniss. I reverse my course and head in the direction of the camp only to find her wrestling the deformed body for the only weapon she’s ever known.
“Katniss, run! Get out of here!” I yell aggressively.
Realization of my words sinks in and she begins in the opposite direction clumsily, revealing the venom has begun its destruction. She’s just made it pass the first set of bushes when the blade enters my thigh. Knowing the alliance has been broken I stumble away leaving a trail of messy footprints and blood. I’ve barely reached the bank of a stream when the hallucinations become overwhelming and my body crumples in agonizing pain.
